Day before the long trip
It’s been almost a month since I have come back from Duke for the summer, but this month has been a month full of preparing for my trip to Kakamega, Kenya and for my trip to Germany this coming fall. From making bank appointments, to reaching out to past interns, to getting a very short hair cut for my trip, I have realized that I am becoming more and more independent. Feeling like an adult? This is actually a good feeling!
Well, packing isn’t a good feeling. Especially when I am packing for two months. I guess when I get there I’ll figure out if I forgot anything…
As I prepare for 22 hours of flying over the course of the next few days, I realize how blessed I am to have this opportunity to serve through DukeEngage. Ever since I was little, it’s always been a dream of mine to visit Africa. Little did I know that my first time would be serving people, which is one of my greatest passions. It’s very exciting know that in a few days, I will be working in a healthcare center teaching sustainable growth to Kenyans! Praise the Lord! I hope that this trip will teach me how to be humble and allow me to have meaningful conversations with people.
To quote a famous philosopher: “All we have is this moment, tomorrow’s unspoken. Yesterday is history, so why don’t you be here with me.” I hope that I will live every moment in Kenya like this moment.
I’ve never been really good at blogging, which means my thoughts will probably be very scattered. However, I will try my best to blog my feelings, my struggles, and my reflections .Hopefully, I will be able to share some super awesome pictures with you all too when I get to Kenya! During this trip, I hope to learn more about the world and also to learn more about myself. I hope that by immersing myself in a completely different culture, I will being to appreciate the more important things in life. In fact, I hope that by having limited internet connection, my social media addiction will slowly be broken down. There is just too much clutter in my life right now :)
