Das Leben des Dalberts

You might be wondering what the name of this blog means, so let me translate it for you! Dalbert’s Life (genitive in German… hehe)

And yes, this is will be a short blog about my life in Berlin. I don’t even know where to start because so much has happened within the past few months. (I can’t believe that I’ve already been in Berlin for more than 2 months… why does time have to fly?) Anyway, life in Germany is WONDERFUL! I must say, Germany has become one of my favorite countries… I could even see myself living here in the future :D

My experience here has so far been an amazing one. Luckily, I was placed in a host family that treats me as one of them. It’s such a great experience for me, being able to speak German and still have that “family life” despite being abroad. I think that my German has really improved since being here, but sometimes it is frustrating not being able to fully communicate everything that I would like to, but hey, language comes with practice right? :D. The three courses I’m taking at Humboldt Universität are all very enjoyable and the professors have all been really awesome and love teaching what they teach. There are 25 people in our program, each of whom have their own personalities and quirks, which makes this program even better. There’s no langweilig (boringness) within our group, and we never fail to entertain each other! Also, on an unrelated note, I think people who are involved in German whatevers always notice how I’m always hungry… but it’s just a fast metabolism… lol. (back at Duke, my german professor would jokingly ask if i had a bottomless pit… hehe, it sure feels like I do)

With only a few more weeks left in Germany, I want to try to make the most out of it. It’s kind of sad for me personally that I haven’t been able to make many German friends, so hopefully I’ll be able to within the next few weeks! And can I just say that I am so excited for the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall on Sunday. It’s going to be such an exciting experience and I am so ecstatic that I get to be a part of this celebration. Pics will (hopefully) be up!

Also, when my Berlin experience ends, it will have been 6 months since I’ve been able to spend home with mom and dad, Brownie and Max. And yes, I miss you all very much <3 Cannot wait to see you all.

It’s been almost a month since I have come back from Duke for the summer, but this month has been a month full of preparing for my trip to Kakamega, Kenya and for my trip to Germany this coming fall. From making bank appointments, to... Continue →
